New Rochelle downtown, waterfront takes shape

NEW ROCHELLE – An apartment complex that opened on North Avenue this week is being hailed as one of the first transformative pieces in the city’s development overhaul, while downtown and waterfront plans continue to take shape.

The Lombardi Apartments, a five-story mixed use building, is three blocks from the city’s Transportation Center. With 48 luxury apartments — including five affordable units — and 2,600 square feet of retail space on the ground floor, it’s a kick-start in New Rochelle’s plan to add more than 6,000 housing units, more than two million square feet of office space and a million square feet of retail, Mayor Noam Bramson said.

“The Lombardi is not just an outstanding addition to New Rochelle’s menu of housing options; it also represents the future of the North Avenue corridor and of our transit area as a whole,” Bramson said.
